African trade beads, African beads, Islamic period beads, Ancient beads. Trade glass beads were made in Europe and were used by Europeans as currency for trade with Africa from 17th to early 20th century. Islamic period glass beads were made in the Middle East and Egypt from 7th to15th century and were introduced into Africa by Arab traders. Ancient beads shown were made over a period of time from 7th century B.C. to 8th century A.D. including Phoenician, Roman, Byzantine and migration periods.
